Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for the Film club, Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, Table tennis, and Musical performances. You successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the intersection of Amateur dramatics and Table tennis in 2010. However, the report is slightly hindered by imprecise data reporting; for instance, stating the Film club had 'about 65 participants' is vague, and the description of the Martial arts trend as 'remains same' at the end is inaccurate based on the visual data. To improve, ensure you provide more precise figures and clearer descriptions of the movements shown on the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'Furthermore', and 'In the year 2000' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with referencing and flow. For example, 'Begin with' is not an appropriate transition for an academic report, and the phrasing 'first came in sight' is awkward. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly unnatural, which prevents the writing from flowing as smoothly as it would at a higher band level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic verbs like 'contributed', 'engaged', and 'remains', which are not always used in the correct context. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'part in' instead of 'participate in' and 'collides' instead of 'intersect' or 'converge'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of word-choice errors limit the score. Focusing on more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data trends would significantly improve your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'between 2000 and 2020 period' (missing article), 'see slightly dip' (incorrect verb form), and 'at end remains same' (missing articles and subject). Additionally, the sentence 'the Film club contributed about 65 participants' is grammatically awkward; it would be better to say 'the Film club had approximately 65 participants'. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
