Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to report on the main features, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task. For example, you mention the Film club and musical performances but fail to provide a clear, comparative overview of the trends over the entire 20-year period. The data points provided are often vague (e.g., 'between 30-40'), and the lack of a clear summary of the overall trends prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you cover all categories with specific data points and provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and the body paragraphs lack clear topic sentences or cohesive devices to link the ideas together. Phrases like 'Meanwhile' are used, but the transition between the different activities is disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'the amateur dramatics participants are getting decreased from where it begins', which lacks a clear time reference. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'subsequently', 'furthermore') to guide the reader through the data more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors that hinder the precision of your report. There are spelling mistakes such as 'Amateus dramtics' and 'perfomances'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'famous' and 'increased', which are not ideal for describing statistical trends. There is also a lack of variety in the language used to describe changes, such as 'getting decreased' instead of 'declined' or 'experienced a downward trend'. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'reached a peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the participants in musical perfomances are about 0' (tense inconsistency) and 'the martial art participants are start with' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing full stops at the end of sentences. The sentence structures are often repetitive and lack the complexity required for higher bands. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of past tense when describing historical data.
