Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the graph and provided a clear overview. You covered all five activities and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the stability of the film club versus the fluctuations in other categories. However, the response could be improved by grouping the data more effectively rather than listing each activity sequentially. Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate; for instance, you mentioned the film club remained constant at 65, but the graph shows a slight variation. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you synthesize the information rather than just describing each line individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall', 'While', and 'From the five different activities', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. Some transitions feel abrupt, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated to better group the trends (e.g., grouping increasing trends versus decreasing ones). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your observations would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'fluctuating', 'constant', 'massive downfall', and 'increased gradually'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take role in' instead of 'participate in' and 'the participants became same' instead of 'returned to the same level'. There is also some repetition of the word 'participants'. To improve, try to use more varied synonyms and ensure that your collocations are natural. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the participants who take part in the film club in year 2000 to year 2020 are stable' (tense inconsistency), 'the four activity are fluctuating' (subject-verb agreement), and 'it has 15 participants which increased' (missing punctuation). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and consistent verb tenses will significantly improve your score.
