The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The line graph shows the number of participants in five different activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, the graph presents five activities: film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances, and shows how the number of participants changed over the 20-year period. Film club remained the most popular activity, while table tennis saw the biggest increase. In contrast, amateur dramatics experienced a significant decrease.

In 2000, the film club was the most popular activity, with about 64 participants. This number decreased slightly to around 59 in 2010, before rising again to approximately 64 in 2020. The number of participants in martial arts fluctuated throughout the period, starting at about 36 and reaching a peak of 38 in 2010. It then fell slightly to around 34 in 2015 before rising to 36 in 2020.

Table tennis showed an upward trend. Its number of participants increased from about 16 in 2000 to 20 in 2005, and remained at this level in 2010. After that, it increased significantly, reaching around 35 in 2015 and 53 in 2020. Musical performances had no participants in 2000 and 2005, but the number rose to 12 in 2010 and continued to increase slightly to 18 in 2020.

Finally, amateur dramatics increased slightly from 26 participants in 2000 to 28 in 2005. However, the number then decreased considerably, reaching 20 in 2010, 14 in 2015 and only 6 in 2020.
