Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including trends for all categories. However, it lacks an overview or summary statement that highlights the most significant trends or differences, which is a requirement for a Band 6 or higher. The information is presented as a list of individual data points rather than a cohesive report. While the key features are identified, the lack of a clear summary and the tendency to simply list figures without synthesizing the data limits the score. To improve, ensure you include an introductory overview that identifies the most striking trends, such as the overall growth in table tennis versus the decline in amateur dramatics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no clear logical progression between the different activities described. Cohesive devices are largely absent; the sentences are simply strung together without linking words or transitions (e.g., 'In 2000...', 'The material arts...', 'The amateur dramatics...'). This mechanical listing style prevents the text from flowing smoothly. To improve, use paragraph breaks to separate different trends and employ cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'meanwhile', 'subsequently', or 'whereas' to connect ideas and show the relationship between the data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is repetitive and limited. Phrases like 'little bit decrease', 'reached on', and 'maintained the average' are used repeatedly. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', 'surged'). Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'material arts' (should be 'martial arts') and 'not having any interest' to describe a graph line. To improve, incorporate more precise verbs and nouns for describing trends, such as 'experienced a significant decline', 'remained stable', or 'witnessed a sharp increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. There is a lack of complex sentence structures; most sentences are simple and follow a repetitive pattern. Punctuation is missing throughout, and there are errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage (e.g., 'reached on 60 percentage'). The use of 'the' is inconsistent, and the sentence structure is often fragmented. To improve, focus on using a variety of sentence types, including complex sentences with subordinate clauses, and ensure that basic grammatical rules regarding articles and prepositions are applied consistently.
