Student answer (Band 6.0)
The illustration gives information about the numbers of participants doing several activities including film club, martial club, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances during the time period of 2000 to 2020.
Overall, musical performance started later but participants increased with the passage of time. The number of participants showed zig zag trend in martial arts. the highest number of participants were active in film club and they showed mixed trend as time passed.
It is quite evident from the line graph that in 2000, the maximum number of participants were present in film club and the minimum numbers were involved in table tennis. From 2000 to 2005, film club and martial arts showed downward trend of number of participants and the number of participants in table tennis and amateur dramatics increased but in next five year both decreased and become equal in 2010. After 2010, table tennis trend went upward and amateur dramatics trend went down.
However, after 2005, film club members decreased and then started increasing from 2010 to onward. The martial arts participants showed zig zag trend and it went upward and downward gradually with passage of time. Musical performance activity started in 2005 and its number increased with passage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and identifies the main trends. You successfully highlight the starting point, the overall trajectory of the activities, and make relevant comparisons, such as noting the crossover between table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the analysis is slightly repetitive in the final paragraph, where you revisit trends already mentioned. To reach a higher band, ensure that each piece of information provided adds new value or a deeper comparison rather than restating previous points. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'It is quite evident', though the flow between sentences can feel a bit mechanical at times. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between the description of the different activities is smoother, as some sentences feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'downward trend', 'upward', and 'gradually'. However, there is a reliance on simple phrasing and some inaccuracies, such as 'zig zag trend' and 'from 2010 to onward'. These choices are functional but lack the precision expected at higher bands. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and avoid informal descriptors like 'zig zag'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' before 'martial arts'), subject-verb agreement issues ('number of participants... become equal'), and awkward phrasing ('in next five year'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for articles and pluralization would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
