Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the dominance of the film club and the late emergence of musical performances. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the film club and martial arts, the description of the trends is imprecise. For instance, stating that martial arts 'maintained the number in between 30 to 40' is vague, and the comparison between table tennis and amateur dramatics lacks specific data points. To reach a higher band, you should provide more precise figures from the graph to support your observations and ensure all categories are clearly compared throughout the period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. While there is a logical progression, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'A noticeable thing in the whole chart' are informal and clunky. The transition between the overview and the specific details could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where the comparison between the film club and table tennis is difficult to follow due to the lack of clear linking words and precise data references.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'showed', 'increased', and 'maintained'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'contribute from the year of 2005' and 'less difference in number'. To improve, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed'. The range is sufficient to convey the main points, but it does not demonstrate a flexible or precise use of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'In between the period of 200 to 2020' is a sentence fragment and contains a typo (200 instead of 2000). There are also issues with article usage ('the Melbourne') and prepositional phrases ('in number the year of 2010'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition use will help improve your accuracy.
