Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all four activities. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest participants and noted the significant growth in table tennis. However, the overview is slightly weak; phrases like 'at the first glance' are informal and unnecessary. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the overall growth in popularity for most activities versus the decline in amateur dramatics) rather than just listing individual points. The data is generally accurate, though the inclusion of percentages for a graph that likely shows raw numbers (if the y-axis represents people) should be checked against the source data to ensure accuracy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Moving ahead', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'this data declined continuously', where 'this data' refers to a trend rather than the noun itself. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended subjects would enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'increased dramatically', 'declined continuously', and 'remained highest'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ware joined' (should be 'joined') and 'after one decades' (should be 'after one decade'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more varied reporting verbs and nouns to describe trends, and ensure that your word forms (e.g., singular/plural) are consistently accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'majority of participants joined' (missing 'the'), 'table tennis activity less popular' (missing a verb), and 'musical performance participants joined in 2005' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring every sentence has a clear main verb.
