Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of the film club trend is inconsistent with the data, and the mention of 'martial arts' is not supported by the provided graph. While you have identified some trends, the lack of precision in reporting the data points (e.g., 'this number decrease to under 10') makes it difficult for the reader to follow the actual information presented. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the data and ensuring that all comparisons are clearly linked to the specific activities shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in 2000' or 'in 2020' to start sentences. There is a lack of clear transition between ideas, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, making the flow of information disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'in contrast', 'subsequently', 'meanwhile') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more effectively, ensuring that each point follows logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'participater' instead of 'participants', 'activitaty' instead of 'activities', and 'culb' instead of 'club'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'highly number peple', occasionally impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable') and ensure that you are using the correct word forms for nouns and verbs. Proofreading for basic spelling errors is also essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('were happened', 'were participated'), subject-verb agreement errors ('this individuals approximately same number'), and missing articles or prepositions. These errors are persistent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent use of tenses when describing past data. Practising the correct use of passive voice for reporting data would also be beneficial for this type of task.
