Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph illustrates numbers of individuals for five activities which are Film club, Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, Table tennis and Musical perfomances at a social centre of Australia in Melbourne between 2000 and 2020.

It is quite clear from the graph that the highest number of participants was in Film club approximately 65 in 2000. Then the number of participants fell minimally before increasing again to nearly 65 in 2020. In 2000, there was approximately 37 participants in Marital arts activity. After that the participants of maritial arts fluctutated marginally at an average level of 40 form 2000 to 2020. Table tennis activity remained constant at nealy 20 participants from 2000 to 2010 then there was a rapid increase in the number between 2010 to 2020.

Ameteur dramatics stayed at 27 attenders in 2000 then the number dropped significantly at 5 in 2020 after a slight rise in 2005. Musical perfomances started in 2005 then experienced a gentle growth in participants from 0 to approximately 20 between 2005 and 2020.

Overall, Flim club activity was highest among all activities over a period of time. However, Amateur dramatics experienced the least number of participants.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the graph and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the Film club's dominance and the decline of Amateur dramatics. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the activities rather than describing each one in isolation. For instance, noting that Table tennis overtook other activities by 2020 would strengthen the analysis. The data points are generally accurate, though ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing facts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for specific trends, and a concluding overview. Cohesive devices such as 'After that', 'Then', and 'However' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of information is generally clear, moving from the most prominent activity to the others. To reach a higher band, try to vary the cohesive devices further and ensure that the relationship between the different activities is more explicitly stated throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated marginally', 'remained constant', and 'experienced a gentle growth'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'perfomances', 'Marital arts' (instead of Martial), 'maritial', 'fluctutated', 'nealy', 'Ameteur', and 'Flim'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, more precise and accurate spelling is required to achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'numbers of individuals for five activities which are Film club' (missing articles) and 'dropped significantly at 5' (should be 'to 5'). There are also minor issues with preposition usage and subject-verb agreement. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for articles and prepositions would be highly beneficial.
