Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify trends for some activities, the reporting of data points is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating Table tennis was the 'least' participant activity when the graph shows otherwise). The overview is present but lacks clarity, as 'mixed trend' is vague. To improve, ensure you accurately interpret the data points and provide a more precise summary of the overall trends, such as identifying which activities grew significantly versus those that remained stable or declined, rather than just listing individual movements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly'). There are also issues with logical progression; the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which activity is being discussed in relation to specific time periods. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'steady growth' and 'rose significantly'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'calibrated in numbers' and 'less preferable played activity'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained constant'. Additionally, ensure you use accurate terminology for the activities and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation (e.g., 'The Martial arts remain steady', '10 participant', '52 participant approximately'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract from the message. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of control over basic grammatical rules prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for singular/plural consistency and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects.
