Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and the least popular at the start (musical performances). However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting; for example, you state that musical performances had 'zero performers in 2005', whereas the graph shows a value of 5. Additionally, the description of the trends could be more precise by grouping the activities more effectively to highlight the overall patterns. While the main features are present, the lack of precision in data interpretation prevents a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Whereas', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother to ensure the reader follows the comparisons more easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant growth', 'fluctuation', and 'downfall'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'remained consistence popular' (should be 'consistently popular') and 'worst from commence' (should be 'lowest at the beginning'). These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of the text. To improve, focus on using adverbs and adjectives correctly and ensure that your word forms (e.g., 'consistency' vs 'consistent') are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('some face decline', 'they gradually popularity'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. For example, 'the film club was the popular activity' should be 'the most popular activity'. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
