Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the dominance of the film club and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that film club participants were '65, 62 and 60 percent' is problematic as the graph likely represents raw numbers rather than percentages. Furthermore, the description of the trends is sometimes vague or contradictory, such as the mention of 'people who did not enjoyed the musical performances', which misinterprets the data provided. To improve, ensure you accurately identify the units of measurement and provide a clearer, more precise summary of the key trends without including irrelevant or misinterpreted information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In detail' and 'In addition' are used frequently, sometimes to connect unrelated ideas. The progression of information is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the description of table tennis and musical performances lacks logical flow. Referencing is also sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which data point is being discussed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help create a more seamless and professional flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling. Examples include 'redidents' (residents), 'intrest' (interest), 'incline' (decline/increase), 'netween' (between), 'sttod' (stood), and 'dawnward tren' (downward trend). These errors are frequent and occasionally distract the reader, although the meaning remains generally clear. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant surge', and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('participants who were attended', 'participants intrest were decline'), incorrect verb forms ('did not enjoyed'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
