Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the film club as the most popular activity and noting the trends for other categories. However, the analysis is somewhat incomplete; for instance, the description of martial arts is cut off, and the data for amateur dramatics is not fully explained. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive by highlighting the most significant changes more clearly. While the key trends are identified, the lack of detail regarding the final years for some activities limits the overall development of the response. To improve, ensure all categories are fully described with clear comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by mechanical errors and awkward transitions. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some sentences feel disjointed, such as the abrupt transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent. While there is a logical attempt to group information, the lack of smooth linking words makes the progression of ideas feel mechanical. Improving the use of transition signals like 'in contrast' or 'subsequently' would help the reader follow the information more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'stared with highest attendance' and 'consistent downward trajectory' (which lacks a verb). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated collocations and occasional word-choice errors (e.g., 'data has been calibrated in number of participants') suggest a need for more varied and accurate lexical items to describe trends and data points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('in 2000 the film club'), incorrect verb forms ('stared' instead of 'started'), and punctuation errors (e.g., 'In, 2000'). Sentence boundaries are sometimes unclear, and there are errors in subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and verb tenses would be beneficial.
