Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the decline in amateur dramatics and the growth in table tennis. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions film club and musical performances, it misses the broader picture of the overall trends. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise, such as describing the film club as 60-70 when the graph shows a more specific range. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant overall changes rather than just listing specific activities, and ensure all data points are accurately reflected.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas' and 'however' to contrast information. However, the paragraphing is somewhat disjointed, and the transition between the description of the film club/martial arts and the table tennis/musical performance is a bit abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enthusiastic', 'drastically declined', and 'gradual increase'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'people were enthusiastic for film club' (a more natural phrasing would be 'the film club was the most popular activity'). There are also minor issues with capitalization, such as 'melbourne'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure consistent attention to proper nouns and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'There is no significant changes were seen' (subject-verb agreement) and 'Number of participants in table tennis were' (should be 'was'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization errors to improve accuracy.
