Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the sharp surge in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is slightly generic; while you mention fluctuation, it would be more precise to highlight the divergent trends (e.g., the contrast between the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics). The data reporting is generally accurate, though the description of the film club's trend is slightly confusing, as you describe it as 'consistent' but then detail fluctuations. Overall, the response provides a clear summary of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, and you use a range of cohesive devices such as 'conversely', 'additionally', and 'furthermore' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different activities. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the referencing is slightly mechanical, and the connection between the overview and the body paragraphs could be more seamless. Overall, the structure supports the reader's understanding of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'sharp surge', 'noticeable drop', and 'gradual decline' are well-chosen and appropriate for describing trends. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'at single social center' (should be 'at a single social centre') and 'participants level' (should be 'participation levels'). While you use some less common vocabulary, there is room for more sophisticated collocations to reach a higher band. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'although' clauses. There are some grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at single social center') and prepositions ('in a number of participants' vs 'in the number of participants'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause difficulty for the reader. The punctuation is generally correct, and the sentence control is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. To improve, focus on article usage and noun-phrase consistency.
