Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the growth in table tennis and musical performance, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the fluctuations in the other categories. However, the overview is slightly repetitive, and some data points are described with limited precision (e.g., 'varied around 60 to 70'). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview provides a clearer summary of the most significant trends without repeating the specific details that belong in the body paragraphs. Overall, the main features are clearly presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'Similarly' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Similarly, graph of martial arts fluctuates'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuates', 'participants', and 'dramatically'. However, there are several spelling errors ('muscial', 'ameteur', 'majer') and some word choice inaccuracies, such as 'number of students' when referring to participants in a social centre. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to the graph data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing) and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Muscical Performances starts'). There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence construction, such as 'a majer change taken place'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding article usage and verb tense consistency when describing past trends.
