Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the stability of film clubs and the decline in amateur drama. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and inaccurate. For instance, you mention 2022, but the graph only covers the period up to 2020. Additionally, the figures cited (e.g., 65 participants for film clubs) are not clearly supported by the visual data provided. While you attempt to identify trends, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the inclusion of data points outside the specified timeframe (2022) prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately extracted and strictly adhere to the timeframe provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure, consisting of a single paragraph that jumps between different activities without a logical flow. While you use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Nevertheless', they are often used incorrectly or repetitively, which makes the progression of ideas feel mechanical. There is no clear introduction or overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. To improve, organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs grouping the activities by their performance (e.g., increasing vs. decreasing trends).

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'seen a great decline' or 'remained the same'. There are also issues with word choice and spelling, such as 'amature' (amateur) and 'center' (centre). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant drop', and ensure correct spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are missing articles (e.g., 'number of participants', 'at social center'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'some seen decline'), and awkward sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. There is a lack of control over complex sentences, and punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your verb tenses consistently reflect the past time period of the graph.
