Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides an overview and attempts to report on the main features of the graph. However, the analysis is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement that 'all activities started from by year 2000 expect the musical performances' is unclear, and the description of trends is inconsistent with the visual data. The report lacks a clear, logical selection of data points, and some descriptions, such as the claim that Amateur dramatics showed the 'lowest participants at the end', are not supported by the provided graph. The response addresses the task requirements but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the trends, leading to a limited development of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Overall', the use of these is often mechanical or misused. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as in the phrase 'in such case more number of participants take part', which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the intended meaning. The logical flow between sentences is weak, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel somewhat fragmented.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'rised in consistent way', 'larged', and 'dramtical chages'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'increase sharply' is used, but the surrounding context is often grammatically incorrect or imprecise). To improve, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a steady increase' or 'a significant decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with verb tenses ('rised', 'showed'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'There was two dramatically increased and decreased in such table', which lacks clarity and correct subject-verb agreement. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty and cause difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and ensure that subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are maintained throughout the report.
