Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview of the main trends, such as the rise in Table Tennis and the decline in Amateur Dramatics. However, the report suffers from inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the text mentions 'athletes ratio' and 'Film industry' when the graph refers to participation in specific activities. Furthermore, the data points are occasionally imprecise, such as describing the rise in Table Tennis as '20 percent to 50 percent' without clear evidence of these specific units. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data and the misidentification of categories (e.g., calling activities 'industries') prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different time periods. Cohesive devices such as 'Beginning with', 'Subsequently', 'On contrast', and 'Moving to' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'On contrast' (should be 'In contrast') and 'the worth noting trend'. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two halves of the timeline, which helps the reader follow the progression of the data. Overall, the organization is coherent, though the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use descriptive language like 'climbed to its highest point' and 'rose sharply'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors that affect precision. Referring to club activities as 'industries' (e.g., 'Film industry', 'music industry') is inaccurate. Additionally, terms like 'athletes ratio' are used incorrectly in the context of a social centre. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main ideas, the lack of precision and occasional misuse of terminology limit the score to the 6.0 band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'mostly people were interested' (should be 'most people'), 'by the end of 2020 year' (should be 'by the end of 2020'), and 'the worth noting trend was displayed' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors in article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching the 7.0 band, which requires more frequent error-free sentences.
