Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the given categories. The introduction accurately paraphrases the prompt, and an overview is provided, highlighting the general trends of film club, martial arts, table tennis, and amateur dramatics. Key features are selected and reported, such as the initial and final numbers for the film club and musical performances, as well as the changes in table tennis. However, some data points are slightly imprecise, and the development of ideas could be extended further to fully explore all data trends. Despite minor omissions, the response addresses the task adequately and meets the requirements for a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical, with awkward transitions like 'firstly' and 'Secondly' introducing the body paragraphs rather than smoothly guiding the reader through data comparison. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance in phrases like 'the quantity of table tennis people', which lacks precision. While there is a logical attempt to group information, the progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, placing this aspect of the writing firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items related to data reporting such as 'dramatically increased', 'significantly rised', and 'participants'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'tabel tennis', 'decreaesed continusely', and 'quantity of table tennis people' instead of 'number of participants'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical range, corresponding to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'the number of participants of film club in 2000 were' (should be 'was') and 'rised' (should be 'rose'). Punctuation is also lacking in places, leading to run-on structures. While some sentences are accurate, the frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing means the text falls into the Band 5.0 category.
