Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons of the provided line graph. An overview is present in the second paragraph, which correctly identifies key highlights such as the film club's enduring popularity and the significant growth of table tennis. Key data points are accurately selected and cited to support the description, for instance, noting the starting and ending figures for amateur dramatics and table tennis. The response is fully relevant and directly answers the prompt requirements without any major omissions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised with a clear overall progression. The essay is appropriately divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and well-structured body paragraphs that group data logically by activity. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'However', 'In contrast', and 'Finally', which helps guide the reader through comparisons. Referencing is generally clear, though paragraphing could be slightly more balanced to avoid isolated sentences, the overall structural flow remains strong and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate information clearly and with some precision. Items appropriate for task 1 writing are utilised, such as 'gradually', 'fluctuated', 'decline', and 'considerably'. However, there are a few spelling and typographical errors present in the text, such as 'activitty', 'marial' instead of 'martial', 'becam' instead of 'became', and 'decease' instead of 'decrease'. Despite these lexical slips, the vocabulary used is adequate to convey the data effectively without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms effectively, incorporating past tense structures and comparative clauses such as 'while amateur dramatics experienced a significant decline' and 'before rising again to approximately 64 in 2020'. The majority of sentences are grammatically sound and meaningful. There are a few isolated mechanical errors, such as the missing preposition or typo in 'in 2015 in 50 in 2020', but these do not impede overall comprehension, demonstrating a good level of control over basic and complex structures.
