Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task well by identifying and reporting the main features, trends, and making comparisons across the activities. The opening introduces the graph accurately, and the overview captures the general trends. Key data points are selected and reported, such as the film club starting with the highest participants and musical performances having lower initial figures. However, there are some minor lapses in data precision and organisation, such as minor confusion in sentence structure when reporting figures for amateur dramatics and martial arts. Nevertheless, the response clearly addresses the prompt and presents a well-supported summary of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement with a logical sequence of introduction, overview, body details, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different sections of the report. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Overall', 'At the beginning of 2000', 'Whereas', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, and referencing can become slightly cluttered in the body paragraph when multiple activities are squeezed together, such as the abrupt transitions between table tennis, amateur dramatics, and martial arts. Despite these minor issues, the progression of information remains generally clear throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items related to trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', 'significant increase', and 'relatively stable'. There are some minor errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'nd' (typographical error for 'and'), 'graphic description', and awkward phrasing like 'in case of amateur dramatics and martial arts'. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main features and trends of the graph accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are examples of good complex structures, such as 'While musical performances had the lowest number...', though some complex attempts contain errors. Grammatical errors and punctuation slips occur throughout the text, including missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'in case of amateur dramatics'), subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the film club remain'), and slight awkwardness in prepositional usage. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the report remains clear to the reader.
