Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the graph and making relevant comparisons between the different activities over the 20-year period. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, identifying the highest category (film club) and noting general trends such as steady growth in martial arts and fluctuations in other activities. Specific data points from the graph, such as starting and ending numbers, are integrated into the body paragraphs. However, some data references are slightly imprecise or awkward, such as "at 15 or 25 number of interested people", and certain details lack full contextual integration. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of Task 1 well, earning a band score of 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is structured into logical paragraphs with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs grouping the data logically. Cohesive devices and transition markers are used, such as "Starting with", "Moreover", and "In addition", though some are used mechanically or awkwardly, as seen in "Starting with film club which was the noted his position". Paragraphing is present and appropriate for the task. Referencing is sometimes unclear due to grammatical errors, for instance, "material arts the one of the activity". The overall arrangement is coherent enough to guide the reader through the data, supporting a band score of 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting less common items such as "fluctuate", "drastically rose", and "plunge". However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the response, including "revel" instead of reveal, "numerous" instead of number, "serval" instead of several, "material arts" instead of martial arts, and "his" used incorrectly for possessive reference. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main trends, resulting in a band score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and articles, such as "The line graph revel vital information", "participants was significantly at his higher level", and "year 210" instead of 2010. Punctuation errors are also present, including missing spaces after full stops. Complex structures are often faulty, and errors require the reader to occasionally reread sentences to grasp the intended meaning. Consequently, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.
