Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the categories provided. The overview accurately captures the general trends, noting that most activities showed improvement or remained steady except for amateur dramatics. Key features such as the popularity of the film club and martial arts are highlighted, along with the notable rise in table tennis from 2010 onwards. However, some data points lack complete precision or comparative depth in specific years, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.5. The information is generally well-selected, though minor expansions on the exact percentages or trends would elevate the performance to a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs focusing on different activities. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'Similarly', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or abrupt, such as the sudden shift into the details of amateur dramatics in the final paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct trends, resulting in a coherent overall arrangement that meets the requirements for a Band 6.5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'fluctuations', 'proportion', and 'dramatically'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'intetest' instead of interest, 'withthin' instead of within, and 'dramatical' instead of dramatic. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect the characteristics of Band 6, where the vocabulary is adequate for the task but contains persistent inaccuracies in spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory phrases like 'except Amateur dramatics, all activities showed...'. There are, however, several grammatical inaccuracies, including missing articles (e.g., 'illustrates number of participants' instead of 'illustrates the number', and 'participating Film club' instead of 'participating in the film club'). Punctuation and verb tense consistency also show minor flaws. Because these errors rarely impede communication and the mix of structures is evident, the response achieves a Band 6.0 for grammatical range and accuracy.
