Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student covers all parts of the task well by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the categories. The overview accurately highlights the film club as the most popular activity, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the growth in table tennis. Key data points are selected and reported effectively, such as the film club reaching approximately 66 in 2020 and amateur dramatics falling to roughly 6. However, there are minor data omissions, such as omitting exact initial figures for table tennis, and a slight confusion in expression regarding martial arts. Overall, the task is well addressed, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 7.0 score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response has a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It opens with an appropriate introduction, provides a clear overview paragraph, and then delves into more specific details in the body paragraph. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Overall', 'Whereas', 'In contrast', and 'Furthermore'. However, paragraphing could be slightly more refined, and some referencing is slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure (e.g., beginning multiple sentences with 'The number of participants in...'). Logical flow is maintained, placing this performance solidly at Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 due to the repetitive sentence openings and slightly rigid cohesive links.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'illustrates', 'substantial decline', 'significant growth', and 'fluctuated'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though some awkward collocations or phrasing appear, such as 'number of participants in martial arts remained fluctuated' (missing verbs or adjectives) and 'Musical performance members was 0'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly without impeding communication, matching the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses ('Whereas Amateur dramatics experienced a substantial decline' and 'it can be seen that...'). There are some grammatical errors, most notably the fragment 'decreased slightly from 2000 to and then increased' and the awkward phrasing 'martial arts remained fluctuated' alongside subject-verb agreement issues ('Musical performance members was'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the overall grammatical control fits a Band 6 level well.
