Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all main features of the graph, identifying key trends such as the film club remaining the most popular activity and the significant growth of table tennis. Key data points are accurately reported, such as the film club reaching approximately 66 in 2020 and amateur dramatics falling to roughly 6. Comparisons are appropriately made between categories, such as table tennis overtaking martial arts and amateur dramatics. The overview effectively summarises the overarching trends. While a minor grammatical slip occurs near the beginning regarding data points, the overall task is fully addressed with well-selected and supported details, earning a solid Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response exhibits clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped logically, starting with an introduction, followed by an overview paragraph, and then detailed body information. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Whereas', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the data, although there is a slight structural awkwardness in the sentence 'decreased slightly from 2000 to and then increased'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the overview from the specific data points. Overall, cohesion is generally well-managed, leading to a clear and coherent presentation of the graph's information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate and precise enough for the task, with successful attempts at less common items such as 'substantial decline', 'significant growth', and 'fluctuated'. Word choices effectively convey the movements shown in the graph. However, there are minor slips in collocation or phrasing, such as 'Musical performance members was 0', where 'number of members' or treating 'musical performance' as a singular category would be more natural. Spelling is accurate throughout the text, and the lexical range is sufficient to allow some flexibility and precision, fitting the Band 6.5 descriptor closely, rounded to a stable 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using clauses effectively ('It can be seen that...', 'Whereas Amateur dramatics experienced...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, but a few noticeable grammatical errors persist. For instance, the sentence 'decreased slightly from 2000 to and then increased' contains an incomplete prepositional phrase, and 'Musical performance members was 0' features a subject-verb agreement error with plural/singular nouns. Punctuation has a minor spacing error before the period at the end of the second body paragraph. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid Band 6.5 level of grammatical control.
