Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is severely under-length, containing only 78 words compared to the required minimum of 150 words. Because of this major omission, the task cannot be fully addressed. The student attempts an introduction and a brief overview, mentioning several activities such as Film club, Table tennis, and Musical performances, and identifies general trends like upward movements and a dramatic fall. However, the response completely lacks a body paragraph with detailed data comparisons, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The failure to meet the word count requirement heavily penalises the task achievement score, resulting in a band 4.0 as it responds to the task only minimally.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is structured into a brief introduction and an overview paragraph, but it is far too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or cohesive progression. While basic cohesive markers such as 'Overall' and 'Moreover' are attempted, referencing and transitions are awkward. For instance, 'three number of participants like Film club...' lacks clear syntactic integration, and sentences break off abruptly due to the truncated nature of the writing. There is a lack of logical organisation and progression because the data is not fully presented or developed. Therefore, the coherence and cohesion are limited, aligning with the descriptors for a band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and heavily repetitive, with noticeable word choice and spelling errors. For example, the student writes 'Martial art' instead of 'Martial arts', 'remained relatively stable minor fluctuations' which is grammatically confused, and 'drametic fall' with a spelling error. Phrases like 'accounted the upward trend' misuse standard collocations. Although the student attempts to name specific activities and trends, the limited range and frequent lexical inaccuracies mean that vocabulary is basic and strains the reader at times. This corresponds to a band 4.0 for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting of just a few overly complex or poorly structured sentences. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, such as 'changes on the number' (instead of 'changes in'), 'three number of participants like...' which lacks a predicate, and missing punctuation at the end of the final sentence ('dramatic fall'). The majority of sentences contain errors or awkward phrasing that can cause difficulty for the reader. Given the extremely restricted output and frequent structural inaccuracies, the grammar falls into the band 4.0 category.
