Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all the main features of the chart across the given period, identifying key trends such as the popularity of the Film club and the rise in table tennis participants. However, the summary lacks sufficient data comparisons between categories, and some specific figures contain inaccuracies compared to the visual prompt (e.g., describing musical performance numbers incorrectly). The overview provided in the second paragraph captures the highest and lowest points broadly, but lacks precision. While the task is adequately addressed to satisfy a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level, the lack of well-synthesized comparisons prevents it from achieving a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introduction, an overview, and subsequent body paragraphs detailing different activities. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The student relies on basic transitional phrases like 'Moving towards the rest of the information' and 'on the other side'. Additionally, referencing and pronoun use are sometimes unclear. Sentences within paragraphs can feel disjointed due to poor punctuation and abrupt shifts between different data points without smooth logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases related to trends, such as 'dramatic incline', 'fluctuations', and 'rapid decline'. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices and spelling/morphological errors, such as 'engage' instead of 'engaged', 'comapred', 'finallly', and 'starred' instead of 'started'. These vocabulary errors and awkward collocations occasionally hinder precise communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 5 to 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak throughout. There is a complete lack of capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns (e.g., 'the given line chart', 'overall', 'film club'), along with severe run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., 'Further, these numbers remained constant till 2010, after that this figure dramatic incline...'). Grammatical inaccuracies such as missing verbs ('figure dramatic incline' instead of 'figure experienced a dramatic incline') and incorrect prepositional use ('engage in this activity' where past tense is needed) create frequent obstacles for the reader.
