Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, selecting relevant data points, and making appropriate comparisons across the activities. The opening paragraph correctly paraphrases the prompt, and the overview sections effectively highlight key trends, such as the film club remaining the most popular activity and musical performances experiencing the most notable increase. Data is cited accurately throughout, with figures such as starting and ending numbers correctly referenced. The ideas are well-developed, and the selection of information provides a clear, comprehensive summary of the provided graph without omitting major trends. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 7 requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped reasonably well into introduction, body, and summary paragraphs, ensuring a structured reading experience. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Overall', 'whereas', and 'In contrast', though some transitional phrases like 'Moving further' and 'At a fleeting glance' feel slightly unnatural or awkward in an academic context. Paragraphing is utilized sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader logically from overall trends down to specific data comparisons. Referencing is mostly clear, though minor improvements in cohesive phrasing would elevate the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'fluctuating', 'significantly', and 'gradually declined'. However, there are a few word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'paticipants' instead of 'participants', and the repetition of basic verbs like 'started' and 'increased'. Additionally, some collocations are slightly off, such as 'the Martial art' (missing plural and article usage). Despite these occasional slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and accurately without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures through subordinate clauses and comparative constructions. There are several instances of grammatical errors, such as tense inconsistency ('table tennis maintain' instead of 'maintained', and 'show a significant growth' instead of 'showed'), as well as minor punctuation issues like a missing comma or a stray period. However, the majority of sentences are understandable, and these errors do not impede overall communication. Control of basic grammar is evident, but greater accuracy in tense agreement across complex sentences is needed for a higher band.
