Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student covers all the main features of the line graph, providing an overview and selecting key data points to report and compare across the period. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in quoting specific figures compared to the visual data (for instance, stating film club reached 65 instead of 66, and starting the time period incorrectly as 2002 in the introduction instead of 2000). Despite these minor data discrepancies, the main trends—such as the film club remaining the highest throughout, table tennis growing significantly, and amateur dramatics declining—are clearly highlighted. The response successfully addresses all parts of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is arranged logically into a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that handle different subsets of data. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "By contrast," "however," and "whereas," though referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the comparison of the five activities over the twenty-year span. Overall progression is clear, meeting the criteria for a band 6.5 to 7.0 range, though a slightly tighter organization of the complex data points would improve flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms associated with graphical trends such as "surge steadily," "fell," "fluctuations," and "remain constant." There are occasional vocabulary and spelling errors, such as "tabel tennis" and "experience fluctuations in their participants" instead of "experienced," as well as awkward phrasing like "slightly began to start." Nevertheless, the lexical resource is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with varying success. There are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The line graph illustrate," "There was only 16 participants"), tense inconsistencies (shifting between past and present), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the response from achieving a higher band score for grammatical accuracy.
