Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The student covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview and highlighting key trends and comparisons across the categories. The main features, such as the film club remaining the most popular and table tennis experiencing the most significant growth, are accurately reported and supported with appropriate data points from the visual source. Figures such as 64 for the film club in 2000 and 54 for table tennis in 2020 are correctly referenced. The response meets all requirements for Task Achievement, offering a well-balanced summary without irrelevant detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The text is logically organised with a clear progression throughout. Information is grouped sensibly into an introduction, an overall summary paragraph, and detailed body paragraphs that handle different aspects of the chart data. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'whereas', and 'meanwhile' are used effectively to link ideas and make comparisons clear. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate general trends from specific data figures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited to academic report writing, employing appropriate lexical items such as 'illustrated', 'fluctuated', 'considerably', and 'peaked'. Word choice is generally precise, and collocations are natural. There are no notable spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, enabling the reader to follow the analysis smoothly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
A good variety of complex sentence structures is used effectively, such as participial clauses ('reaching 20 participants in 2005 and 2010') and comparative constructions. The majority of sentences are error-free, and control over grammar and punctuation is strong. Minor errors are virtually absent, and the grammatical structures support clear communication of the data.
