Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting information on several activities from the line graph, such as table tennis, amateur dramatics, and the film club. However, the task achievement is significantly limited by inaccuracies in data interpretation, numerous misreadings of the chart (e.g., stating amateur dramatics started at 25 in 2000 when the correct value is 26, and stating musical performances started in 2000 despite the data showing zero participants until 2010), and severe misidentifications of the categories, such as referring to activities as "assingments" and the social centre as a "social media centre". The overview provided is extremely weak and fails to capture the main global trends effectively. Consequently, the response falls into the Band 5 category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear and coherent overall structure. While the writer attempts to group information into paragraphs, the progression of ideas is disjointed and repetitive, particularly with redundant mentions of "In Melbourne and Australia". Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, with phrases like "In the graph" used mechanically to introduce sentences. Paragraphing is poorly controlled, resulting in a series of fragmented and underdeveloped observations rather than a cohesive summary. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. Overall, the organization meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The lexical resource is very basic and contains frequent word choice and spelling errors that impede communication. The student misuses everyday terms, such as "assingments" instead of activities, and "social media centre" instead of social centre. There are also frequent spelling and morphological errors, such as "Melbourene", "partcipants", "inclined" (used incorrectly for increased), and "numer". Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to poor collocation and inappropriate word forms (e.g., "subscription is joined so many peoples"). The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive, placing the response firmly in the Band 4 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex forms that are heavily flawed and ungrammatical (e.g., "The graph showed that the joining of participants in table tennis is start in 2000 is just 15 participants join in starting"). Errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure are pervasive throughout the text (e.g., "members joines this activity and this activty in 2020 still maintain"). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning, corresponding to a Band 4.0 level.
