The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The graph illustrates the number of people who participated in five different kinds of activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia between 2000 and 2020.

Overall, participants in the film club remained relatively stable throughout the period but the number of people participated in Martial arts fluctuated. The figure for amateur dramatics declined while the number of members in Table Tennis and Musical Performances increased considerably.

In 2000, the film club was by far the most famous activity, with approximately 64 participants. Although its membership fluctuated slightly over the following two decades, it remained relatively stable, ending at around 60 participants in 2020. Martial art, on the other hand, began with almost 38 participants and fluctuated considerably throughout the period, reaching roughly 40 in 2020.

The number of people involved in amateur was around 25 in 2000 and almost stayed same till 2005 but fell dramatically to 10 in 2020. Similarly participation in Table tennis rose dramatically from approximately 28 to about 55 over the same period. Furthermore, musical Performances showed a different pattern. There were no participants in this activity from 2000 to 2005. Its popularity increased rapidly started rising from 0 in 2005 and in 2020, there was around 20 participants in this activity.
