Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the line graph, including the overall trends and comparisons between activities such as the film club and table tennis. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and vague statements regarding the data. For instance, stating that table tennis mirrored the film club is misleading, as table tennis actually experienced a dramatic upward trend from 16 to 54 participants, whereas the film club remained relatively stable around 60-66. Furthermore, some data points are imprecise or confusingly phrased, such as the claim that the film club grew 'by 5 between 2020' and the reference to musical performances starting in 2005 when the data shows 0 until 2010. While the overview is partially present, the lack of precision and some misreadings place this at Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic visual structure, but the internal cohesion and logical progression are frequently disrupted. Sentences often feel disjointed, and transitional phrases are either misused or absent (e.g., 'while this trend was mirroring the second position by table tennis'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of comparisons. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping ideas related to specific activities or trends is not executed logically. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and inaccurately, resulting in a response that fits the Band 5 descriptor where organisation is evident but overall progression lacks clarity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and frequently repetitive. The student uses basic terms like 'activities', 'people', and 'popular', and attempts less common words result in awkward collocations or incorrect word forms, such as 'choosed' instead of 'chose', 'peoples', and 'follopwing trend'. Phrases like 'Incredibly interest had increased' demonstrate noticeable lexical and grammatical errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. While the topic-specific vocabulary is minimally adequate to discuss the chart, the frequent word-choice errors and lack of precision restrict the lexical score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammar and tense errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('other remaining activities shows'), incorrect verb forms ('choosed', 'had choosen'), and preposition errors ('between 2020' instead of 'by 2020'). Punctuation is basic, and sentence boundaries are sometimes blurred. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, aligning well with the Band 5 descriptors.
