Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover all parts of the task by reporting data for the various activities across the specified period. An overview is provided, noting that three activities grew, amateur dramatics declined, and martial arts fluctuated. However, there are some inaccuracies and misinterpretations in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that over 60 individuals participated in film club in 2000 and 'increased steeply by around 5', whereas the rise to 66 is quite gradual. Furthermore, describing musical performance as starting from 2010 and reaching about 20 participants is relatively accurate, but some comparisons lack clarity and precise data support. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the task is only partially addressed in terms of precise data selection and robust comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is arranged into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs divided by contrasting trends. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'On the one hand', and 'On the other hand', though some transitions are mechanical or awkward in placement. Logical progression is occasionally disrupted by confusing sentence structures and abrupt shifts in referencing, such as 'Before rising until 2010, just only 20 choosed tennis that dramatically grew by over 30 peoples.' Paragraphing is attempted, but overall organization suffers from minor structural inconsistencies.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate to convey the general trends of the chart, incorporating terms such as 'popularity fluctuated', 'dramatically grew', and 'overtook'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'attendees for several activities on social centre of Melbourne' instead of 'at a social centre', 'choosed' instead of 'chose', and 'peoples' instead of 'people'. Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision and accuracy, resulting in occasional strain for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'where it remained same', 'just only 20 choosed tennis', 'musical performance had started from 2010 became third popular'). Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as misplaced brackets and run-on structures. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
