Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph illustrates the number of participants for up to 70 against the x axis for years that range from 2000 to 2020.
There has been an growing interest in musical performances from the year 2010 (10) which was otherwise nil for the year 2000 and 2005 (0). Table Tennis has seen a spike after 2010 as the graph became linear with 2020 participants reaching up to 55. Amateur dramatics starting off strong with 25 participants in 2000 but has been declining since 2005 which reached it's lowest in 2020 (5). Martial Arts has been fluctuating within the same range of 30 to 40 participants throughout the years. Film club has also been fluctuating in 60 to 70 range.
Film club has been the highest in comparison for the number of participants throughout the years with highs reaching almost 67 in the year 2020. Similar to film club, martial arts has also been fluctuating within it's range of 30 to 40 participants landing it in the third place. The second highest highest among these would be table tennis which even though started small but grew in number till 2020 (55). Musical performances were non existent until 2005 from where there's a gradual increase placing it in the 4th number and the last one would be amateur dramatics which although started strong but dipped exponentially after 2005 reaching the lowest in 2020 (5).

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student has adequately addressed the prompt by reporting the main features and making comparisons between the activities over the 2000-2020 period. The response includes an overview of trends, such as the rise of table tennis and musical performances versus the decline of amateur dramatics and the steady dominance of the film club. While the opening sentence awkwardly describes the axes rather than introducing the graph fully, the candidate successfully highlights key data points with figures. Some minor details could be more thoroughly integrated, but overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, aligning with a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a logical overall arrangement, separating information into an introduction, body paragraphs detailing trends, and a concluding comparative paragraph. However, paragraphing is somewhat repetitive, as the student separates the trends from the comparisons rather than integrating them naturally. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing is sometimes mechanical or clunky (e.g., 'landing it in the third place', 'the last one would be'). Progression is clear enough to follow without difficulty, matching the criteria for Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms like 'fluctuating', 'spike', 'declining', and 'non-existent'. There are, however, some awkward collocations and lexical errors, such as 'an growing interest' instead of 'a growing interest', and 'reaching it's lowest' with an incorrect apostrophe. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed accuracy, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The candidate uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'starting off strong with 25 participants'). However, grammatical errors occur with some frequency, such as agreement errors and punctuation issues ('reaching it's lowest', 'amateur dramatics starting off strong... but has been declining'). Despite these errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and communication remains clear, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
