Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and making comparisons across the five activities. An overview is provided in the second paragraph. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the specific data points compared to the visual data. For instance, the student states that the Film club was 64 and then increased to 68 in 2020, whereas the graph shows it reaching approximately 66. Similarly, the peak for table tennis and the starting points for musical performances and amateur dramatics contain slight inaccuracies in data extraction. Nonetheless, the main trends—such as the dramatic rise of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics—are correctly identified and highlighted. This performance aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement and attempts to group information logically, with an introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and subsequent detail paragraphs. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed due to awkward sequencing and mechanical or missing cohesive devices (e.g., 'followed by some years', 'then minimal increased'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is faulty in places, and referencing or linking between sentences lacks fluency. This reflects the characteristics of Band 6, where information and ideas are generally coherent overall, but cohesion can be mechanical or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'fluctuated', 'significantly', and 'dramatical'. However, there are frequent word-formation and word-choice errors, such as 'minimal increased' instead of 'minimally increased', 'hitted' instead of 'hit', 'dramatical' instead of 'dramatically', 'fastly' instead of 'rapidly', and 'climed' instead of 'climbed'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the score to Band 5.0 because the inaccuracies are noticeable and systematic across several sentences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including tense usage, incorrect verb forms ('hitted'), missing prepositions, and faulty adverb/adjective forms (e.g., 'then minimal increased', 'it rose dramatical', 'it decreased fastly'). Punctuation is basic. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in untangling the intended meaning, this performance sits firmly at Band 5.0.
