Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview and highlighting key trends and comparisons. The main features are accurately identified and supported with data from the graph, such as the peak of table tennis reaching above 50 and amateur dramatics decreasing to around 5 in 2020. The overview effectively captures the contrasting trajectories of the activities. Data points are appropriately reported without unnecessary listing, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. Information and ideas are presented in a coherent sequence, beginning with an introduction and overview paragraph, followed by detailed body paragraphs grouped by trends. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, although there is a slight error in collocation with the phrase 'In contrary', which should be 'In contrast' or 'By contrast'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different groups of activities, contributing to the overall readability of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'contrasting trends', 'gradual', and 'dramatic rise'. However, there are a few minor spelling and lexical slips, including 'experinced' instead of 'experienced' and 'paricipants' instead of 'participants'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is precise enough to convey the main features and comparisons clearly, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or 7 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses introduced by 'Although' and 'while'. There is generally good control of grammar and punctuation, and the majority of sentences are grammatically sound. Minor errors occur, such as the subject-verb agreement slip 'This figures increased' instead of 'These figures increased' and a missing subject in 'it experienced a growth' when referring to musical performances. However, these errors do not impede communication.
