Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by identifying main trends and making relevant comparisons across the categories. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, noting the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the student incorrectly refers to the data as 'percentages' ('the percentage of table tennis', 'prportion of musical perfomaces') rather than absolute numbers of participants, which is a factual misrepresentation of the line graph. Furthermore, some trends are described inaccurately; for instance, amateur dramatics did not have a 'small increased in 2005' but actually rose slightly from 26 to 28 before falling. Overall, the response addresses the prompt and captures the main trajectories, but data misinterpretations keep it at a Band 5.5 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs, showing a clear structural attempt. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'However', and 'then' are employed to link ideas and track chronological progression. However, progression is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion, such as 'While, Amateur drametics showed plummeted by end of 2020 behavoir before showing a small increased in 2005.' Paragraphing is present, but internal logical flow is occasionally disrupted by confusing sentence structures and repetitive transitional patterns. This places the response firmly in the Band 5.0 to 5.5 range, demonstrating basic organizational skills with frequent awkwardness.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently impaired by word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes. The student repeatedly uses the incorrect word 'percentage' or 'ratio' instead of 'number' or 'participation figures'. There are also numerous spelling and morphological errors throughout the text, including 'prportion', 'perfomaces', 'drametics', 'plummeted' (used as a noun), 'inceraed', and 'remaind'. While some topic-appropriate vocabulary is attempted ('sharply increase', 'peak', 'fluctuated', 'plateaued behavior'), the high density of basic lexical and spelling errors restricts the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising subordinate clauses ('While percentage amateur dramatics decreased...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage. Examples include 'for time period of 2000 to 2020' (missing article), 'reached at the peak' (incorrect preposition), 'ratio for musical performaces aslo experinced' (spelling and agreement issues), and 'showed a small increased' (incorrect word form). Sentences containing errors often cause strain for the reader, and error-free sentences are relatively sparse. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
