Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is severely under-length at only 72 words, falling well short of the 150-word minimum requirement. Consequently, it only minimally addresses the task. While the student attempts to introduce the chart and mentions a couple of activities such as the 'film club' and 'marital arts', the overview is incomplete, comparisons are missing, and the response trails off mid-sentence ('reached and 2010 it jumped'). Because of the significant length penalty and incomplete content, the task achievement cannot exceed a band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text consists of only two very short paragraphs and is abruptly cut off. There is no clear overall progression or logical structure. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical ('As we see that', 'However'), making the text difficult to follow. Paragraphing is inadequate as the writing breaks off prematurely. While some introductory framing is attempted, the overall organisation fails to meet the criteria for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'illustarte' instead of illustrate, 'begening' instead of beginning, and 'marital arts' instead of martial arts. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and inadequate for an academic task, showing little ability to paraphrase or use less common lexical items effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of poorly constructed and incomplete simple sentences. There are serious grammatical errors, punctuation omissions, and run-on structures, such as 'The line graph clearly illustarte that number of participants took a part in different activities at social centre in melbourne.' The grammar breaks down completely towards the end, resulting in an ungrammatical fragment.
