Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the task well, providing an overview and selecting key features and comparisons from the graph. The overview correctly identifies the Film club as having the highest participation and Musical performances as the lowest. Key trends are reported, such as the stability in Martial arts, the inverse relationship between Amateur dramatics and Table tennis, and the growth in Film club and Musical performances. However, there are minor inaccuracies in reading the specific data points, such as stating that the Film club closed at '68 members in 2020' (when it is approximately 66) and that Amateur dramatics fell to 5 members (when it is around 6). Furthermore, the expression 'on middle of the year' is imprecise. Despite these minor data reading flaws, the main trends and comparisons are adequately addressed, positioning this response firmly at Band 6.5 to 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Coherence is generally maintained overall, and logical progression is attempted. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'whereas, the least people enrolled' uses improper punctuation and phrasing, and sentences like 'Amateur dramatics & Table tennis had two opposite break through point on middle of the year' are awkward and disrupt the flow. Paragraphing is functional, but referencing and linking between sentences can be clunky. Overall, the organizational structure meets the criteria for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', and 'enrollment'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'sports activity held on one social centre' (instead of 'at'), 'the least people enrolled', and 'sharer continuously increasing'. Spelling and word formation errors also occur, such as 'break through point'. While communication is not impeded and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main trends, the recurring lexical inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'A large number of participant took part...' and 'However, Amateur dramatics enrollment fell...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, prepositions, and plurals. Examples include 'participant' instead of 'participants', 'held on one' instead of 'at a', and 'people started to took part' instead of 'started to take part'. Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as separating clauses incorrectly with periods or commas. Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to pull the grammar score down to Band 5.5.
