Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and trends of the five activities shown in the line graph. An overview is attempted, stating that the film club was the highest and amateur dramatics saw a drop. However, the overview is somewhat simplistic and contains minor inaccuracies regarding rankings (e.g., table tennis was not consistently second overall across the whole period, and the phrasing 'mostly people were involved' is awkward). Specific data points are generally accurate, such as noting that amateur dramatics started around 26 and dropped to 5 or 6, and table tennis rose significantly. There are slight misreadings of the final year figures (e.g., stating 65 for film club instead of approximately 66), but these are minor. Overall, the task response fulfills the requirements adequately, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical layout with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific data. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Specifically', 'Overall', 'Meanwhile', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and progression are sometimes clunky or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Furthermore, there were no participation in music performances' lacks smooth integration, and paragraphing could be structured more logically to group rising versus declining trends. Overall arrangement is coherent, but minor lapses in cohesion keep this at a Band 6.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'minimally increased', 'dramatically increased', and 'approximatelly'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors ('amatuer', 'tabel', 'approximatelly', 'participations') and awkward word choices ('depicts the information of numbers of people', 'mostly people were involved', 'were no participation'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect typical Band 6 characteristics where lexical control lacks precision and slips occur frequently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The graph depicts the information of... from 2000 to 2020' and 'while table tennis participation was around 16 participants in 2000 and dramatically increased'. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there were no participation') and preposition errors ('participated... at social center'). Punctuation and sentence structures are generally clear enough to be understood, but the frequency of non-systematic errors places this firmly in the Band 6 category.
