Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student successfully covers all main features and trends across the five activities shown in the chart. The overview clearly highlights that the film club remained the most popular overall, while musical performances started later and recorded lower figures initially, alongside noting the general fluctuations across categories. Key data points are cited, such as the film club starting above 60 and reaching around 66 in 2020, and table tennis showing a significant rise. However, there are minor inaccuracies in data reporting (e.g., stating musical performances had the lowest amount before 2015 when it started at zero in 2000 and 2005, and slight misreadings of intermediate years). Overall, the response addresses the prompt well, though data precision could be slightly sharper.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and separate body paragraphs dedicated to grouping the activities. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect ideas (e.g., 'whereas', 'after that', 'where'). However, paragraphing could be structured more cleanly, and referencing is occasionally mechanical or repetitive (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'The number of participants...'). Transition words are sometimes basic, which affects the overall flow. Nevertheless, a clear progression of information is maintained throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for Task 1, including terms like 'fluctuated', 'decline', 'witnessed a variation', and 'exceeded'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward collocations, and spelling mistakes throughout the text (e.g., 'accounted received' instead of 'accounted for' or 'received', 'recieved', 'increasements' instead of 'increases', 'decreasements' instead of 'decreases', and 'teniss table'). These errors occasionally detract from the precision of the response, placing it firmly in the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting relative clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'across five activities which are film club...', 'where the number of participants were...'). However, grammatical errors are frequent, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'numbers of participants... were considerably fluctuated' instead of 'fluctuated', 'around 66 participant' instead of 'participants') and prepositional usage ('at social centre' missing an article). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they persist throughout the response, preventing a higher score.
