The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The line graph compares the numbers of people who participated in various activities at a social center in Melbourne, Australia from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, Table tennis and Musical performances showed a significant increase, while Amateur dramatics experienced a decrease in popularity. Film club and Martial arts, meanwhile, remained relatively stable with only minor fluctuation over the time period.

In 2000, Musical performances had no participants, but after 2005, it started to rise and ended up at nearly 20 participants. Table tennis showed a slight increase at the beginning, before staying the same from 2005 to 2010 at around 20 people. After 2010, the figure rose sharply to around 55 by 2020. In contrast, Amateur dramatics stood at around 26 participants in 2000, but, fell dramatically to 8 persons in 2020, after a temporary rise in 2005.

The other two activities were Film club and Martial arts, which stayed almost the same at around 65 and 35 individuals respectively. However, none of the activities surpassed Film club as it remained the most popular among the members.
