Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, identifying the highest participation (film club) and lowest participation (amateur dramatics), along with trends for table tennis and martial arts. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student states that the film club started at 65% (using percentages instead of raw numbers) and that musical performances started at zero and reached 20% at the end of the year, whereas the graph indicates participant numbers reaching around 18. Additionally, the overview is fragmented and lacks clear synthesis. These data inaccuracies and underdeveloped comparisons place the response in Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence placement and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters or disjointed connectors like 'whereas, marrtial arts remais constant. In addition...'. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs requires substantial improvement, reflecting Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the visual data, including terms such as 'constant', 'decline', and 'peak point'. However, there are numerous lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'paritcipants', 'acivites', 'films culb', 'corssing', 'amateru', and 'tabel tennis'. The misuse of units (consistently writing percentages '%' instead of participant numbers) also detracts from precision. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic trends, the frequency of spelling and word-choice errors restricts the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences (e.g., 'while, amateur dramatics...'), incorrect prepositions ('involving in'), and awkward phrasing ('film club accounted the highest participants'). Punctuation errors, including incorrect full stops within sentences and missing commas, are pervasive. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader, this performance aligns with Band 5.0.
