Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarising the main features of the line graph and making relevant comparisons between the activities. An appropriate overview is provided, highlighting the general trends such as the dominance of the Film club and the contrasting trajectories of Amateur dramatics and Table tennis. The data points cited are generally accurate and aligned with the visual source, such as the peak of Table tennis and the decline of Amateur dramatics. However, there are minor inaccuracies in the specific figures reported (e.g., stating Martial arts started at 37 instead of 36, and Film club reaching 65 in 2020 instead of 66). Despite these minor misreadings, the task is well-covered.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is structured with an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Progression is generally logical, moving from a broad summary to specific data points. However, paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with several very short paragraphs that disrupt the natural flow of information. Cohesive devices are used to some extent (e.g., 'While', 'On the other hand', 'However', 'While in contrast'), but referencing and linking feel slightly mechanical and abrupt at times, such as 'Film club participants were at 64 in the 2000 after that they dropped...'. Overall arrangement is coherent, but paragraph cohesion could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for task 1, attempting less common items and functional language such as 'fluctuated', 'declined', 'oscillated', and 'reaching the peak'. However, there are several word choice, collocation, and phrasing errors, such as 'data about the number', 'had got the highest', 'Amateur inclined' (missing the noun 'dramatics'), and 'table tennis had more audience then Musical performances' (using 'audience' instead of 'participants' or 'players', and misspelling 'than'). Spelling and word formation errors, though they do not impede overall communication, prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses introduced by 'while' and 'after that'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent missing prepositions, articles, and punctuation errors, such as missing full stops at the end of the first paragraph, 'in the 2000' instead of 'in 2000', 'reached to 60' instead of 'reached 60', and 'Table tennis goes up sharply' (tense inconsistency with past tense context). While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to a solid band 6.
