Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph illustrates the number of participants for various social center activities in Melbourne, Australia for two decade between the period of 2000 to 2020. In general, there are two trends: upward and downward.
Overall, it is apparent that there seems to be negligible change in film club and martial arts activities throughout the year, as for the number of participant in table tennis was in increasing trend and same goes for musical performance as well. However, for amateur dramatics the participants started to decline after a decade.
Film club begin with the largest number of participants with about 60, martial arts start with around 38 participants in 2000 respectively and remain constant throughout the period. Meanwhile, amateur dramatics activities seems to fall drastically from 28 participants in 2000 to less than 10 by 2020.
In 2000, social activities of table tennis has below 20 participant but shown a significant growth after 2010 and reached up to 50 participant which is second highest after film club. Additionally, musical performances was the lowest with 0 participant in beginning year but shows a noticeable growth after 2010 and reached 15 participant by the end of the period.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student successfully reports the main features and trends of the line graph, covering all five activities over the twenty-year period. Key trends are correctly identified, such as the stability of the film club and martial arts, the steep decline in amateur dramatics, and the significant growth in table tennis and musical performances. While there are some minor numerical inaccuracies (for instance, stating that the film club began with about 60 participants rather than 64, and slight rounding of figures), these do not prevent the response from providing a clear and accurate overall summary of the visual data. The overview at the beginning is somewhat repetitive but successfully outlines the main patterns. The response meets all task requirements adequately, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs grouping the categories by their trends. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'In general', 'Meanwhile', and 'Additionally'. However, there are some mechanical or awkward transitions, such as 'throughout the year' instead of 'throughout the period', and referencing can occasionally be slightly disjointed (e.g., 'as for the number of participant in table tennis was in increasing trend'). Paragraphing is appropriately used to separate the different categories, but logical progression could be smoother. Overall, the organization is coherent, achieving a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms related to data trends such as 'upward', 'downward', 'constant', 'decline', 'growth', and 'noticeable'. However, there are noticeable word-form and collocation errors, such as 'for two decade' instead of 'for two decades', 'number of participant' instead of 'participants', and 'was in increasing trend' instead of 'followed an upward trend'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited precision. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('musical performances was the lowest'), missing plural markers ('0 participant', '50 participant'), and tense inconsistencies ('Film club begin'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. Because errors occur frequently and cause minor distraction without fully impeding communication, the grammar performance aligns with a Band 6.0.
