Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student covers all parts of the task well, providing an overview and selecting key features and comparisons across the period 2000 to 2020. The main trends are successfully identified, such as the film club remaining the most popular and table tennis experiencing significant growth. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies and awkward figures reported in the body paragraphs (for instance, stating that martial arts ended at 37 in 2010 instead of 2020, and misreporting amateur dramatics starting figures as 36 to 38). Despite these minor errors, the overall response fulfills the requirements of the task adequately, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into clear paragraphs, starting with an introduction and an overall summary, followed by logical body paragraphs detailing the categories. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'By contrast'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in sentences like 'Table tennis showed the most dramatic increased, its participants is 16 in 2000...' where punctuation and clause structures break the logical flow. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but overall progression can feel slightly disjointed due to grammatical interferences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for a data report, including words like 'participants', 'significant growth', 'considerably', and 'fluctuating'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'distincit' instead of 'distinct', 'unchnaged', 'comtrast' instead of 'contrast', and awkward phrasing like 'the table tennis experience is the most significant growth'. These lexical slips and minor inaccuracies place the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is attempted, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the film club hasd around', 'its participants is 16'), tense inconsistencies, and run-on sentences with comma splices ('Musical performance, is no participants in 2000 and 2005, it is rose up...'). While these errors do not entirely impede communication, they occur regularly and limit the score to a Band 5.5.
