Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, identifying the film club as having the highest participation and noting trends for other activities such as table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the data points reported contain several inaccuracies when compared to the visual data. For example, the student states that the film club had '65 number of participants from 2000' (the actual value is around 64) and that musical performances started at 0 in 2005 (they actually started around 2010). Furthermore, the overview is repetitive and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the overall trends. The ideas are underdeveloped and the lack of precision in reporting data places this performance within band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview/conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak and repetitive, as seen in the redundant overviews provided at the beginning and the end. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'regarding table tennis was secound highest figure', 'afterthat', 'after 10 years'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks internal cohesion and clear progression. Referencing and linking between ideas are frequently faulty, leading to a disjointed reading experience. These features align with band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive (e.g., 'participants', 'number of participants', 'activities'). There are several non-standard collocations and word choices, such as 'most lowest participants get participate in this' and 'strated participate'. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'fluctuated', 'decreased', and 'increased', the range is limited and inadequate for a higher band. Spelling and word-formation errors occur frequently (e.g., 'secound', 'afterthat', 'perfomances', 'strated'), which causes some difficulty for the reader and restricts the score to a band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex or varied constructions often result in significant grammatical errors (e.g., 'film club had 65 number of participants from 2000 and it fluctuated between 60 to 65 straight to 2020'). There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'on social centre', 'accounted 35 number of participants'). Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and misplaced commas. These persistent errors frequently impede smooth reading, justifying a band 5.
